THE FOREST
When we put out a call for stories – we asked everyone we knew to send in a story of a real life experience. It could come from anyone in any walk of life in either English or Bahasa Malaysia. Later we included video capture in dialect. Our intent was to harvest the everyday stories that Malaysians share about living in this complex and beautiful country where different cultures have intermingled since the dawn of time.
This region has been the crossroads and pathways for ancient Asian civilizations and the seafarers of the West who came to explore, trade and eventually colonize – only to leave and return home.
The new Asia has arisen out of these times and here in Malaysia we have a microcosm of a plural society, layered, complex and beautiful.
Let us tell our stories – let them speak for us.
